The Na people ( also known as the Mosuo), is a small agricultural community residing in the border between Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces in China. For a long time, its social structure and related cultural characteristics have been the research focus of the academia. However, the Daba ritual, which is potentially associated with some kind of religious performance, has still not been carefully and systematically studied. By reviewing the fieldwork experiences, this lecture will examine the three major layers of chanting, relaion and cognition and introduce the distinguishing features of the Daba rituals, for serving the purpose of indicating the next procedure of the research and clarifying the close relation among the actions, the process as well as the cognitive mechanism of the Daba rituals.
