Shortly after 1901, a growing number of Chinese students went overseas to pursue studies. The translation and publishing industry flourished. The introducing of new western studies brought a lot of new terms into vogue, which has greatly impacted youngsters. People at that time had heated debates and reflections from the standpoint of ‘writing as vehicle for politics’. Though there were people defending the rationality of these new terms, more criticized it as a tool to smooth over faults and would cause hazards if abused. But the criticisms failed to contain the prevailing of the nomenclature and its implications.
